Hawthorn Medical welcomes David R. Clark, DO, FAAFP, a Family Medicine physician, who has joined the group practice. He will see newborns, children, adolescents and adults at the Family Medicine Department, 535 Faunce Corner Road, Dartmouth.
Dr. Clark has practiced in the Dartmouth area for 13 years. A graduate of University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed a Family Medicine residency at Penn State Geisinger Medical Center and a fellowship of the American Academy of Family Practice. Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Clark is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association.

Hawthorn Medical welcomes Pamela L. Coury, MD, a Family Medicine physician, who has joined the group practice. She will see patients at the Family Medicine Department, 535 Faunce Corner Road, Dartmouth.
Dr. Coury is a graduate of Spartan Health Sciences University where she earned her Doctor of Medicine degree. She completed a Family Medicine and Community Health residency at University of Massachusetts-Worcester Family Practice. She practiced at the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center for six years, the Community Health Center of New London, CT, and most recently at Prime Medical Associates. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Almeida has practiced in the Dartmouth area for five years. She is a graduate of Albany Medical College, Albany, New York, and completed a Family Medicine residency at Albany Medical Center. Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Almeida is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
Hawthorn Medical welcomes local dermatologist
Hawthorn Medical is pleased to welcome local dermatologist Karen S. McGinnis, MD to their 535 Faunce Corner Road location. Dr. McGinnis graduated Magna Cum Laude from Dartmouth College. She earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where she also completed her residency in Dermatology and a fellowship in Cutaneous Oncology. She is a member of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies.
Board certified in Dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. McGinnis specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with a variety of dermatologic conditions. She is also an expert in the surgical and medical management of skin cancers, including melanoma. Of interest, she is the fourth generation of female physicians in her family.

Hawthorn Medical holds ceremonial groundbreaking for new building
On Wednesday, September 4, Hawthorn Medical hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a new, state-of-the-art medical facility that is being built adjacent to Hawthorn’s main 535 Faunce Corner Road facility in Dartmouth.
The 126,700 s/f, three-story building will expand Hawthorn services onto one campus and include a women’s center, pediatrics, internal medicine, orthopedics, a rehab center, OB/GYN services, diagnostic imaging, a laboratory, a walk-in urgent care center and administration space. Occupancy is expected in the fall of 2014.
This will be the fourth project on Hawthorn Medical’s Dartmouth site developed by Summit Smith Healthcare Facilities. In the building design, patient flow from registration to waiting to care areas and convenient access to imaging, laboratory and rehabilitation services were priorities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hawthorn CEO James Gularek said, “Our goal is the continuous enhancement of the medical services we provide to the community. In merging our physicians and support professionals onto one main campus, we are making it easier for our patients to access the services they need.”
Hawthorn Medical adds family practice physician
Hawthorn Medical Associates is pleased to announce that Elaine Wu, MD, a Family Practice physician who has worked in the Hawthorn Urgent Care Center for 10 years, will now have a primary care practice. She will see patients at 237A State Road, Dartmouth.
Dr. Wu earned her Doctor of Medicine from the Albany Medical College in New York. She completed her residency with Brown University Family Practice, Memorial Hospital of RI and served as Assistant Chief Resident. She is board certified in Family Practice.

Hawthorn Medical welcomes Keith Medeiros, MD
Hawthorn Medical Associates is pleased to welcome Cardiologist Keith D. Medeiros, MD, who has joined the practice.
Dr. Medeiros graduated from Fairhaven High School and served in the United States Army as a Chemical Operations Specialist and paratrooper. He later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Massachusetts-Amherst and his medical degree from University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA. Dr. Medeiros completed an Internal Medicine residency, serving as Chief Resident, and completed a Cardiology fellowship at University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
Board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Medeiros is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Medical Association and the Massachusetts Medical Society. He has special interest in general Cardiology, Echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and non-invasive imagery.

Hawthorn Medical Associates awards scholarships to area high school seniors
Just seven years ago, Hawthorn Medical Associates established a scholarship program for graduating seniors pursuing higher education to become healthcare professionals. With this year’s scholarships, Hawthorn Medical has awarded more than $150,000 to a total of 51 high school seniors to help support these outstanding students in their goal.
The scholarship recipients are eight public high school seniors aspiring to enter the healthcare field who will begin college in the fall 2013.
The recipients, who each received a $3,000 scholarship, are: Alexander McGurk, Apponequet Regional High School, will study Biology/Pre-Med at Connecticut College; Makenna Camara, Dartmouth High School, will attend Quinnipiac University to study Biology/Pre-Med; Annie McGregor, Fairhaven High School, will study Neuroscience at the University of New England; Lindsay Mota, Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, will study Nursing at Rhode Island College; Katia Domingues, New Bedford High School, will study Biology/Pre-Med at Tufts University; Nicholas Pacheco, Old Rochester Regional High School, will study Biomedical Engineering at the University of Connecticut; and Ryan Pelland, Westport High School, will attend Fitchburg State University to study Nursing.
In addition, Alyssa Pacheco, Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School, was awarded the William Holliday III, MD, Memorial Scholarship. She will pursue Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
