Hawthorn Medical's main Laboratory, located at 237A State Road in Dartmouth, provides a full range of testing services. For the convenience of our patients, blood-drawing service is also available at 535 Faunce Corner Road.
With a state-of-the-art laboratory information system, all tests results are provided online on a secured site. This computer system, along with the latest testing equipment, dramatically improves efficiency so that our physicians have quick access to test results.

Please note: Hawthorn Medical's Laboratory is not licensed as a reference lab. Therefore, we are unable to take blood work orders from non-Hawthorn physicians. All lab orders must be from a Hawthorn Medical physician.
The Laboratory performs testing in the following areas:
Chemistry
chemical components such as glucose, cholesterol and calcium

Immunochemistry
special testing for therapeutic drug, hormone and thyroid monitoring

Hematology
cellular components such as red and white blood cells and platelets are measured

Coagulation testing
measures the blood's clotting tendency for patients taking Coumadin

Microbiology
disease causing bacteria are isolated and identified

Urinalysis
to screen for urinary tract infection, renal failure and diabetes

Serology
includes testing for pregnancy and some diseases like rheumatoid arthritis
In addition, the Laboratory can perform specialized tests such as:
BNP test (B-type Natriuretic Peptide)
monitors congestive heart failure by measuring a substance secreted from the heart (which increases as the condition worsens)

Antibody test for H. Pylori
determines if bacteria that infects the stomach is present, which can contribute to stomach pain, bloating, heartburn, inflammation and ulcers

Hemoglobin A1C
for monitoring diabetes

Lactose tolerance breath test
to diagnose lactose intolerance
