Hawthorn Medical Opened the Doors to Improved Care

The goal of moving to this new facility was to allow providers and staff to give patients comprehensive medical care in one location. The Hawthorn Cancer Center, Endoscopy Center, Allergy, Audiology, Diabetes Management Center, Coumadin Clinic, and Orthopedic & Arthritis Center are all located within the building.
Hawthorn Medical Associates opened the doors to a truly unique facility in June 2006. The 94,300 square-foot building is located at 535 Faunce Corner Road in Dartmouth. It was specially designed to optimize patient comfort and convenience while providing physicians and staff an environment to better coordinate patients' care.

Designing a Patient-Friendly Environment

Hawthorn Medical worked with Summit/Smith Healthcare Facilities in Waukesha, Wisconsin to design the building. The building's design contributes to operational efficiency for providers and staff, but more importantly, all areas, from parking to exam rooms are patient-friendly.

Making Patients Feel at Ease

From registration to check out, a patient's entire visit is streamlined. All physicians and patient services are located on the two upper levels of the building. Patients enter the building on the first level into a beautiful sky lit lobby. A staff member, located at the Information Desk near the main entrance, helps direct patients and answer questions.

After registering at a central registration area, patients are directed to a particular section of the large, comfortable waiting area. Patients are brought to their physicians' separate section by a staff member. After their visit, patients check out with the medical secretary located within that section.

If blood work is needed, it can be done in the Laboratory located on the first level. The Diagnostic Imaging Center is also located on the first level.

Administrative services such as the Business Office, Human Resources, Information Technology, Medical Management and Medical Records are located on the lower level. For patients needing copies of their medical records or diagnostic imaging films, the Medical Records department is easily accessed by elevator.

A New Way of Caring

Exceptional enhancements in health care delivery were made when Hawthorn Medical implemented an electronic medical record system as part of the move to this facility. Electronic medical records are computer-based, graphical representations of a patient's medical record.

Being able to access a patient's medical record from anywhere in the building and at other Hawthorn Medical sites is effortless with the use of the software product, Longitudinal Medical Record (LMR). A patient's medical history, information about tests, and notes from previous visits with any physician within Hawthorn Medical and its affiliated organizations is contained in the LMR. Each patient exam room is equipped with a computer so that information is available to the clinical staff involved in a patient's care.

Other Convenient Features

  • Billing representatives are located on the first level near the main entrance so they can easily assist patients will billing and insurance issues
  • There is a convenient, covered drop-off area and a large landscaped, lighted parking lot for easy access.
  • Dr. Jeffrey G. Swift, a board certified chiropractor, has space on the first level located near the Diagnostic Imaging Center.
  • PharmaHealth pharmacy occupies space in the main lobby so that prescriptions can be conveniently filled before leaving the facility.
